Disabled animals can overcome huge obstacles and adversity when they're given the chance to do so. Such is the case with Hannah, a pig who was born with deformed back legs that she can't walk on unless she has on her prosthetic shoes. She lives at Ziggy's Refuge in North Carolina, and she's living her best life!

Ziggy's shared a video on Monday, May 13th of Hannah wearing her customized shoes. Across the video they wrote, "Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world". After learning more about Hannah, I think you'll agree that it's a very accurate statement!

This makes my heart happy! I love that Ziggy's Refuge takes in handicapped animals and gives them a second chance at life while making their lives comfortable. Commenters had a lot to say about the rescued pig's confident walk. @Marlymoon said, "Go Hannah! Those boots were made for walking!" @Fullnestmama shared, "What a lifesaving rescue! Internationally recognized innovation!" and @Tiggerlove73 added, "Y'all have done amazing things. This baby has a beautiful life!"

More About Hannah the Rescued Pig's Story

Commenter @Enriette had my favorite comment, "Wow I read the caption and amazing job you guys are doing with her. Also, she feels pretty!" Hannah has an incredible story, and I'm so glad that Ziggy's Refuge shared more about it.

Hannah was born with severely deformed legs and without her shoes, she can’t even stand. Hannah is the only pig of her size that has lived this long with this condition. Ziggy’s said, “We’ve heard of many pigs with this condition, none of them have lived past 1.5 years. She’ll be turning 6 and she’s still running!”

Her prosthetic shoes are the only reason she is alive today, but they don't come cheap. Ziggy’s has had 18 pairs of prosthetic shoes made for her. The shoes are costly; each one costs a whopping $1,000. Hannah’s also had to have a couple of surgeries and requires “meticulous care” to keep her alive.

Ziggy's Refuge is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Providence, North Carolina. "We love Hannah and all our babies and when they’re faced with obstacles, we will always go to the end of the earth to make sure their needs are met." The refuge can only continue to help animals in need if the donations continue to pour in. Unfortunately, not all of us are in a position to be able to afford to make a monetary donation, but that doesn't mean you can't help.

There are ways to support rescues as well as animal sanctuaries like Ziggy's that don't cost a penny. You can support their fundraising efforts by sharing announcements wherever you see them and by word of mouth. Follow your favorite rescues on social media and like, share, and reply to their posts. Mention them and ask your friends to give them a follow. The more eyes that find them gives them a greater chance of getting more support. It's an easy way to help these animals live their best lives!
