Just Released: PixelNauts Raccoon Rising Game

PixelNAUTS Inc. and Romper Games release their first collaborative iPhone game: Raccoon Rising

PixelNAUTS is pleased to announce the release of Raccoon Rising, an iPhone and iPad game jointly developed by Romper Games and PixelNAUTS. Raccoon Rising is now available for download on the App Store. 

Raccoon Rising is a unique take on the platforming genre. Players take control of “Raccoon” a newly trained Ninja struggling to stop a hoard of robots from destroying his home. Players will traverse vertically through stages, avoiding traps, defeating enemies, slicing items, and taking down bosses. The game features simple touch controls that are easy to learn and make the game approachable for all audiences, yet the game provides a level of difficulty that will challenge even hardcore players. The art style of Raccoon Rising is painterly and colourful with comic book style story telling. Aesthetically, we set out to make the game appealing and beautiful, pushing the limits of the technology beyond most available on the platform.

The concept of Raccoon Rising was developed by Erik Peterson of Romper Games. Peterson received an OMDC grant in 2010 to develop the game, and after creating a prototype, he partnered with PixelNAUTS looking to push the game to the highest possible level of quality. Alex Golebiowski and Christopher Iacobucci of PixelNAUTS agreed to partner with Romper Games after seeing the prototype, and in March of 2011 started development. The two companies found strength in co-developing the game, Romper Games focused primarily on the programming, while PixelNAUTS developed the style and artwork. The teams worked together continually fine tuning the game, both sides assisted in almost every aspect of development, from brainstorming game ideas, developing characters and story, to providing critiques. After eight months of development, we are extremely proud of the final product, and believe it will become something greater than any of us initially conceived. Both developers will continue to support the game after release, and are already planning new games to develop together in the coming year. The official game release is scheduled for Monday November 21st, 2011 at 10:00am at nGen -  1 St. Paul Street, St. Catharines.
