Events Calendar: Seminar: Gaming Technology in the Simulation Industry
nGen would like to invite you to join us as we present a complimentary seminar, courtesy of FreedomWorks, entitled:
GAMING TECHNOLOGY IN THE SIMULATION INDUSTRY
Tuesday February 9, 2010
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
nGen Boardroom
1 St. Paul Street, Unit 10
St. Catharines, ON L2R 7C2
Register early as seating is limited.
Please RSVP by February 8, 2010 to Julia Babos (jbabos@ngen-niagara.com).
About the seminar:
Computer Simulation is often used in training of civilian and military personnel. A simulator can be used to train pilots, truck drivers and astronauts, allowing them to build their skills in a practical and cost effective way. In recent years 3D gaming technology has been used for non-entertainment purposes as they provide low cost, novel development tools. This seminar will review the latest gaming tools created by developers and researchers used to create effective training applications.
Sub-topics would include:
- What’s in my toolbox?
- A brief review of serious gaming development platforms (middleware) currently being used in the simulation industry.
- Review of which tools we have found to be helpful (tools for the toolbox). - What tools should I be using?
- Assess your clients training requirements.
- Choosing a development tool that meets your clients needs effectively.
About the presenter:
FreedomWorks provides innovative simulation systems and engineering design. By using advanced 3D graphics and interactive hardware FreedomWorks can model key characteristics of a project, vehicle or environment. Simulators can be can be equipped with actual machine control, including a measuring system that provides detailed reports on training sessions or human factors studies. A special program makes it possible to compare trainees and follow the learning curve of individual students. This state of the art technology provides virtual hands-on training without the danger of damaging elements of the operating environment or equipment.
The company is located in Wellandport and directed by Christian Menge. Christian has been working with interactive simulation systems for almost 20 years. He started his professional career as a commercial helicopter pilot and maintenance engineer. After spending 8 years in the helicopter business he went back to school studying Computer Engineering at Niagara College. Over the past 10 years Christian has worked in the US and Canada developing cutting-edge interactive robotics and 3D computer simulations. Some of his clients would include the US Army and Navy, NASA, John Deere, NASCAR and General Mills.Your participation in any nGen event gives nGen permission to
