Interactive Media Networking
nGen hosts a series of “Interactive Media Mashups” where interactive media creators and enablers present their work to others working in the interactive media space. These events increase the industry professional’s awareness of other companies and individuals with complementary and supporting skills. Thus the game designer with a great idea can find artists, writers, programmers, software engineers and others who may wish to collaborate or work on emerging projects. This encourages ‘Made in Niagara’ projects, where all aspects of a project are completed within the Region. Other nGen networking events are aimed at bringing together projects and investors. nGen presents seminars and workshops for project innovators and business start-ups to allow them to gain a better understanding of such things as sustaining project teams, project management, marketing, interactive media deal flow, financing, and managing intellectual property. nGen brings start-ups together with accountants, lawyers, and other professionals who can provide a stronger framework for entrepreneurship. As well, nGen is a learning house for regional, provincial and federal services and programs aimed to assist emerging enterprises and projects in interactive media.
Student Internships and Co-ops
nGen coordinates student employment, internships and co-op placements oriented towards accomplishing its Interactive Media Projects, and to assist with any of the departments within nGen. nGen seeks to employ or provide internships to students with skills in game design using Flash, Director and other prototyping tools; 2D and 3D character and scene building; animation; game design; web design; web development; game development; writing for interactive media; sound design and music creation and editing to name a few. In addition, students enrolled in business and marketing courses are recruited to provide assistance in the different departments within nGen. These opportunities provide students with hands-on industry experience and a stronger knowledge of the industry. During the academic term nGen seeks to develop co-op programs with relevant programs at Brock University and Niagara College.
Recent Graduate/Entrepreneurs
nGen recruits recent graduates who have interactive media skills and are eager to pursue an interactive media or game project of their own. Graduate/entrepreneurs are provided with a modest income support for between 6 months and a year. During this period, they are provided with space, equipment and software that will enable them to develop their own project. At the same time, they will be asked to contribute 50% of their time to an nGen project.
nGen Interactive Media Projects
nGen facilitates the creation of exciting and distinctive interactive media projects intended to build and demonstrate Niagara's capacity to develop sophisticated creative content in this field. The projects aim to retain and nurture talent, and creates opportunities for collaboration among members of the interactive media community who would not otherwise know about each other.
