Background
nGen is the result of well developed collaboration between its Founding Partners. The concept for nGen evolved out of a comprehensive analysis of the Niagara region's capacity for growth in the digital interactive media sector. The Niagara Interactive New Media Incubator Feasibility Study was commissioned by the Founding Partners and the Ontario Media Development Corporation. This in-depth study determined there to be considerable business strength and structural support for digital media in Niagara. It identified a budding new media cluster in Niagara, made up of creators, enablers, creative and technical institutions and a vibrant cultural industry. The study recommended an incubation model designed to establish a synergy between these essential components of the industry as a means to positively impact potential for growth of this industry in Niagara.
nGen opened its doors to the community in June of 2008 and began putting to work its founding principles in order to grow the digital interactive media cluster in Niagara. Since its inception nGen has helped foster a number of start-up companies in the industry and has completed a number of successful interactive media projects. nGen plays a major role in facilitating and forging business development relationships across the industry, and has had a significant impact on the creation of jobs in the digital interactive media sector in Niagara.
In June of 2010, nGen opened its expanded facility, the Generator at one. The $3 million state of the art facility was constructed with funds obtained from the Community Adjustment Fund, a fund created through Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The expanded facility is an incredible boost for the digital interactive media cluster in Niagara, as the cutting edge technologies now make the Region a premier destination for companies to perform business within this sector.
